Work summary
Aiming at the technical advancement of the felt industry
The Felt Association was founded about fifty years ago and now has 35 members together including manufacturers and dealers. Its main objectives are to improve manufacturing technology, modernize facilities, and streamline production and operations. Its activities include setting up a Japanese engineering standard, researching and developing the market, holding technology seminars and sending people for overseas study. Furthermore, it has opened a homepage on the web for publicity purposes.
Industry standardization of felt products
The Japan Felt Association has been working from its very beginning for the industry standardization of felt by drawing up a draft and revising it. We have made a great contribution to the industry through modernizing manufacturing technology and strengthening global competitiveness. It is not too much to say that the greater part of our work has been occupied by the work involving realization of an industral standard.
Engagement in recycling
The Japan Felt Association has set up a recycling business investigative committee and gone into high gear for the purpose of recycling fabrics including felt products in coordination with the recycling section of Japan Felt Industry Union. We have started regenerating and converting used PET-bottles (polyethylene terephthalate bottles) and collecting wasted clothing in order to manufacture non woven fabrics and felt, and are trying to reuse them in a variety of areas like clothing items and automobiles. We will coordinate efforts towards obtaining ISO14000, continue research to further contribute to the textile industry of Japan, and enhance the recycling business for the improvement of our social environment.
